General
Q: What problems does CRYPTOCard technology solve?
A: Whenever a password is used to access private or confidential information, one of CRYPTOCard’s solutions can be deployed to make access more secure and less vulnerable to compromise. This includes remote access, logon to Windows domains, accessing secure web portals, and logon to custom applications, such as ERP, MRP, health records management or financial applications.

Q: Why do we need CRYPTOCard if we already have a VPN?
A: VPN ensures that your data is private and encrypted, but this does not ensure that you know who is on the other end of the communication. Privacy does not necessarily mean security. Strong authentication is also as critical because it prevents unauthorized entry in a way that static passwords do not. CRYPTOCard is designed to work "out of the box" with the leading VPN vendors such as Cisco, NetScreen, Check Point.

Q: What products does CRYPTOCard offer?
A: There are really two components to a strong authentication solution: the software that does the authentication of users, and the tokens (hardware or software) that each user possesses to prove their identify.

CRYPTOCard offers several “software” solutions, including:

  • CRYPTO-Shield (an authentication server and associated components),
  • CRYPTO-MAS (an outsourced authentication service)
  • AuthEngine (an SDK for embedding two-factor authentication into custom applications).
CRYPTOCard offer tokens in a variety of formats, including:

  • RB Pinpad Hardware Token
  • KT Keychain Hardware Token
  • SC Smart Card Token
  • SC USB Style Token
  • ST Software Tokens that can be installed on PCs, PDAs or BlackBerrys.

     Q: Why so many products?
A: CRYPTOCard focuses on flexibility, and developing the best technology for strong authentication to meet the unique needs of our customers and business partners. For that reason, we have not one solution for strong authentication, but several. Each is tailored toward specific requirements, and is able to conveniently fit into the customer’s technology and business environment rather than disrupting it.

Q: What is the standard lifespan of a CRYPTOCard token?
A: Many token form-factors are perpetual, such as ST-1 software tokens, SC-1 smart card tokens and SC-3 USB tokens. Hardware tokens, such as the RB-1 Pinpad and the KT Keychain series have batteries that have a standard battery life of 5 – 10 years under normal use. The tokens themselves never expire, and on many models the batteries can be replaced by the user, giving a continuous lifespan of many years.
